FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here are some of the most asked questions, if you have anymore please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Which is better, a boy or a girl?
When they’ve been desexed it doesn’t really matter.  The boys won’t spray or wander off.  It all comes down to individual personalities.  Some boys are big sooks, some girls are independent.  It really varies between kittens.  The only difference is generally the boys are bigger than the girls by a couple of kilos.

Do I pay more for a show quality kitten?

No, I sell all my pet kittens at the same price.  If you get a show quality kitten, you can show them desexed, it’s up to you.  My prices only vary if I’m selling one for breeding.  Enquiries welcome.

When do I need to pay my deposit?
You don’t need to pay any deposit until you’ve picked your kitten.  Once you’ve picked your kitten you can pay via direct debit or in person.  Your $200 deposit is fully refundable if you change your mind.

Can I get my kitten before he/she’s desexed?
No, I don’t let any of my kittens go until they’re desexed.

When can I pick up my kitten?
If you’ve chosen a boy, you can collect him at 12 weeks after he’s been desexed.  For a  girl, I need to keep her here for 10 days after desexing to have her stitches removed and a vet check.

Will you sell kittens interstate?

I don’t like to put kittens on planes etc.  I prefer to only sell locally (Nth Qld) so their families can collect them.  If you wish to drive all the way up here to collect your kitten, you’re more than welcome.

Are the kittens litter trained before they go home?
Yes, they are fully trained.  I will give you more info when you pick up your kitten about keeping them trained.

Can they be taught to walk on a lead?
Yes, they take to it quite easily.

Are they a lap cat?
Not all.  Although they are Ragdolls and love people and company, they are not all lap cats.  They will at the very least curl up beside you on the couch or in bed.

Do they like dogs or other cats?
Yes, if they are introduced slowly.  They will hiss at first, but usually after a week or so they become good buddies.

Do they like riding in the car?

Yes, if you start them straight away they love it.  I often take the kittens for short drives to get them used to the car.

When are their vaccinations due?

When you get your kitten he/she would have had their two F4 vaccinations at 8 weeks & 12 weeks.  The next one you need to do is 12 months later.

Will they scratch the furniture?

If you don’t have scratching posts around they will.  They maybe docile, but they are still cats.  All cats need to scratch their claws on something.

Are they really an indoor cat?
Yes, definitely.  They like going outside for a play etc. Supervised.  If you leave them outside they could easily get run over, attacked by other animals or stolen.  They aren’t street smart like your average moggy.

What sort of food do they eat?

I feed them top quality biscuits from the vets and fresh mince.  I will give more info when you get your kitten.  DO NOT give them cow’s milk.

How do I go about putting my name down for a kitten?

Either phone or email me.  There is usually a waiting list, but sometimes people change their minds so you might luck out and get in early.  I really like to know as much about yourself and your family before I put anyone on the list.  These kittens are our babies, so as you can understand we only want the best for them.

Are you still involved with the kitten once he/she goes to their homes?

Yes, definitely.  Any questions or problems, please let me know and I’ll try to help.  Even if it’s 2 years down the track.  I will still remember you and the kitten. (may take a second or two, but I will remember)  We always love getting photos and updates on them.

Can we visit your home and see the cats?
Yes, you and your family are more than welcome to visit.  I send regular photos and updates via email, but you can visit as often as you wish.  Just phone ahead. Don’t forget your cameras.

Do they lose a lot of fur and how much grooming do they need?

They lose more fur in Summer, but usually no more than a regular cat.  They only need a quick brush every couple of weeks or so.  Very easy to maintain.

The house is empty most days, will the kitten be lonely?

If it’s just usual work or school hours, they should be fine.  Although they would prefer company, whether it’s human or animal.  If you work away or long hours, you would be better off with 2 or maybe look at a different breed.  They really do love company and it would be cruel to leave them on their own.

Are they past the kitten stage when they come home at 12-14 weeks?
No, they are still very much a kitten.  They weigh around 1.5kg and are still very playful.

I’m interested in breeding, are you able to help?

If you are serious about breeding and have the best interest of the breed in mind, I am only too happy to help.  You must be a registered breeder and abide by the QFA Code of Ethics.  I won’t sell to anyone who is trying to make money from the cats, who will sell kittens to pet shops or won’t sell their kittens desexed.
